I will never get over how beautiful life on earth is. I consider myself very lucky to be alive and I feel thankful every single day. Painting is my way of showing my gratitude.
I’m from Arizona. When I was young we lived in a hand-built home in the Sonoran Desert. At the time it was remote and we liked it that way. We lived without electricity for several years. Since I couldn’t watch tv or hang out with other kids I spent a lot of time outside, exploring. I began to realize that the desert was a delicate and sublime place. It appeared perfect to me, as if every rock and cactus had been placed there by a higher power with a superb sense of perspective and design. Everything was exactly where it was supposed to be. In nature I saw perfection.
We used to spend the summers in Colorado, in Crested Butte. I loved it there and decided to attend Western State College in nearby Gunnison. I was fortunate to live in that community for 10 years. I had some great adventures and met some wonderful people. I learned to ski, and I hiked and biked all over the Western Slope. Somehow I also found the time to get my degree in art.
I went on to work in the visual arts in sales and design, fine art galleries, high-end framing, and corporate art consulting. But truly all I have ever wanted to do was paint, and now I can. I hope to convey in my work at least some of that sense of perfection that I perceive in nature.
